About ALSO

What We Do

The Africa Library Services Office (ALSO), a partner with Africa's Hope, acquires both English and French books at discount prices from major religious and secular publishers.

ALSO then sells those books to pastors, missionaries, and Bible schools throughout Africa, at discounted prices. ALSO has developed extensive bibliographies or "Core Libraries" at various levels for Bible schools and seminaries to serve the curricular needs of the Bible schools in Africa.

Our History

In 1993, John York and Gerard Flokstra, Jr. envisioned providing low-cost books for missionaries and Bible schools in the Two-Thirds world. ALSO was born.

ALSO began in a small office within the DFM Decade of Harvest building in Springfield, Missouri USA. Early in 1996, a building on Campell Avenue provided expanded space, which soon became inadequate.

In 1999, ALSO moved to N. National Avenue. In 2000, Gerard Flokstra III assumed directorship of ALSO. Over the last seven years ALSO has shipped an average of 50,000 books per year overseas.

In December 2003, Gary Carlson, former missionary to Central African Republic, became the ALSO director. And, in June of 2004, we have now relocated into our beautiful new facility at 414 W. Central where we are joined with Africa Theological Training Services to become Africa's Hope.
