About PAThS
The Need for Doctoral-level Training in Africa and the Fulfillment of the Vision
The Church in Africa is growing at a phenomenal rate. According to David Barrett by the year 2025, more Christians will be living in Africa than on any other continent on the face of the earth. Capable and qualified leaders are needed to address the growing challenges that are presented by this numerical increase. The training of ministers at all levels of education is essential for meeting the demands for adequately prepared leadership in the African Church.
There is a consensus among the African Church leaders that doctoral-level training is needed to assist them in meeting their increasing leadership requirements. However, few viable options for doctoral education exist in Africa. Because of this great need, in 2004, this program of study was mandated to be established by the African Assemblies of God Alliance. Africa Theological Training Service was tasked to develop the structure and to implement this new training initiative. In response to the AAGA mandate, Pan-Africa Theological Seminary began in November 2005.
Spirit
The spirit of the seminary is:
- Pentecostal in orientation
- Missional in emphasis
- Contextual in application
Mission
Our mission is:
- To prepare servant leaders - following the model of Jesus Christ.
- To equip the Church of Africa so that it demonstrates reconciliation, spiritual gifting, and maturity in the faith.
- To fulfill God's mission in the power of the Holy Spirit - focusing upon the only true source of empowerment to fulfill God's mission.
Core Values
- Bible
We value the Bible as the inspired Word of God which serves as the foundation for all our training programs. - God's Mission
We value Jesus' mandate for Spirit-filled advance to disciple all nations, focusing upon the unreached while not neglecting the ongoing discipling ministries where the church already exists. - Holy Spirit
We value the ongoing empowerment that begins with the baptism of the Holy Spirit as God's means to fulfill His mission through the church. - Church's Role in Training
We value the church's role in mandating training, receiving the benefits of training, and mediating the same to the world. - Servant Leadership
We value Jesus as the model of the Ideal Servant leading the church to fulfill the mission of God in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The thing I like the most about PAThS is that this seminary offers courses that I believe are Pentecostal oriented, missional based and contextually relevant. PAThS provides a leader with the greatest opportunities to grow in order to make a difference in the ministry.
